
DAMASCUS
Damascus is the capital of Syria and an exceptional example of the timelessness
universality of a great city as it is the worlds oldest continuously inhabited city.
MAALOULA
Spectacular village, carved in the mountain, where people still speak Aramaic, the
language of Jesus Christ.
ALEPPO
The capital of the north of all towns of Syria, it is Aleppo that profoundest impression
upon the visitor. Famous for its citadel that towers over it. Traditionally a city of
trade, especially before the Suez canal, it used to link Europe to Asia.
PALMYRA
Palmyra is one of the greatest sites of the ancient world. The remains of this Oasis city,
midway between the Mediterranean seaboard and the thin cultivated zone of the Euphrates,
seem suspended in the time in this harsh desert environment
HOMS
It is the sight of Gigantic Mausoleum of Islamic commander Khaled Ibn Al-Walid who opened
Syria. It is one of the main Syrian Industrial centers.
BOSRA
It was built in the 2nd century B.C. by Nabatians, and since then it became the
crossroad in the region as a trade center.
EBLA
It was a missing station on the road between Euphrates and the sea coast till it became
the center of wood trade in the 3rd millennium BC. It was discovered in the
year 1963. In 1974, they found forty-two clay tables, but this number jumped to 15,000 in
1976, and those were found in the records of the Royal Palace.

CHEVALIERS
It is the most remarkable of the Crusader fortresses in Syria and in one of the most
characteristic and best-preserved examples of military architecture of the 12th
and 13th centuries.
HAMA
The city which is playing the symphony of the Syrian history. The waterwheels by their
unceasing sound rising from the river banks to prevail in the narrow streets.
LATTAKIA
The capital of the cost of Syria. It is famous since the Phoenician time and called
Ramitha. In the Hellinio era, it was called Laodecea, after the mother of Selocied
Nicator.
UGARIT
It is the ancient Canaanite city which became later the famous Phoenician one. Excavations
revealed five levels of settlement dating from the 7th and 2nd
millennium BC. Ugarit discovered in 1921, is still giving some of its secrets, the most
important of all is the engraved cuneiform sign of the first alphabet in the world made of
30 letters written from right to left. |
